Fontana > Lewis Library
fontana_library_00.JPG

The city of Fontana is a typical bedroom community to the metropolitan Los Angeles where most people call it a home but probably not a place for fun. However with booming housing during the early 2000s, the city adds significant number of new residents as well as increasing revenue from tax collecting from booming properties. The city of Fontana took the opportunity to renovate its aging downtown district and build new city landmark such as Lewis Library and Technology Center.

Set in the new civic center park, the Library is the largest in the county. The city of Fontana is looking to this regional Library to establish a new civic image for the City as well as provide a stimulus for the revitalization of the historic downtown. The Library fulfills the community’s desire for improved library services as well as establishes an icon for a maturing and growing City.

The new Library is a place for all generations, from the youngest child coming with his mother to a story-telling program, to the young student researching a school paper on the Internet, to an adult coming to explore new career opportunities, to a senior enjoying a newspaper in her native language.

The Library features

  • Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Children's Library
  • collection exceeding 142,000 items, including 7,850 reference, media, and periodical items.
  • Electronic databases, software applications, remote access to online informational resources and Internet access
  • Homework clubs and a homework center
  • Spanish language and homework materials
  • A computer technology support and training center
  • A literacy center with tutoring programs
  • A career center
  • 203 public use computer work stations including 25 Spanish language computers
  • Community meeting rooms and a 330-seat auditorium for meetings, lectures and special presentations
  • A bookstore and coffee bar

The two floor library is a perfect place for the resident of Fontana to spend the weekend afternoon to read books and surf the internet. For out of town visitors this is definitely one of the landmarks worth taking pictures.
